Knitting snub

So I made this. I packed it up all nice and pretty.

It was for the Fella's friends' little creature. I even wrote a card. And yet, I received nary a thank you or even a "this will make a great rag for toilet cleaning." I'll just pretend having a newborn is difficult.

Cupcake baby - update

She looks like a cupcake. Love!

Babies are not food, but can look like it.

My friend's sister is having a baby. Now normally, this is too far removed to warrant a gift, but I know I will be in town the weekend of her shower and, what the heck, baby stuff is freaking *small.* I started thinking of the very popular Saartje's booties. Totally cute and dainty and won't require hardly any yarn.

But then I remember that her sister was the oh-so-lucky recipient of my totally awesome corn and turkey legs last year around this time as the Fakesgiving hostess gift. So maybe that's how I got food on the mind...
Anyway, now I'm totally smitten on making this baby look delicious. I've narrowed it down to the Cupcake Hat and the Tomato Baby Beanie (though, I'm leaning towards eggplant, myself). Current yarn stash will probably determine which will come to be, and if time allows, perhaps some matching booties too.

Get Involved!

So I've been looking for a good charity knitting project, and I found one that I quite like. The Yarn Shop in Columbus collects small blankies for the neonatal intensive care unit at the med center. I think it's a great project.

If you're curious:
Obtain 3oz of baby or sport weight 100% acrylic yarn and some size 6 needles.

CO 75 sts
Rows 1-7: K across
Row A: k6, p to last 6 sts, k6
Row B: k across
*Repeat rows A and B until piece measures 14 inches
k across 7 more rows
BO all sts

I think when the weather cools some, I may switch to hats and scarves, but for now I'm all about the super soft baby yarn and baby blankets.
